Pugs are small, muscular dogs with wrinkled faces, large, expressive eyes, and curly tails. Known for their distinctive appearance, pugs have a round head, short muzzle, and compact body, often described as "a lot of dog in a small space." Their short coat can come in a few colors, including fawn, black, apricot, and silver, with a dark "mask" on their face that adds to their charming expression. This breed, originating from China, has a long history as a companion dog, favored by royalty and nobility for centuries. Pugs were particularly beloved in the Chinese imperial court, and they eventually spread to Europe, where they gained popularity among the aristocracy, including the House of Orange in the Netherlands and the British monarchy.

In terms of temperament, pugs are affectionate, loyal, and playful, with a knack for making people laugh. They’re often described as "clownish" due to their silly, mischievous behavior and ability to perform amusing antics. Despite their small size, pugs have big personalities and form strong bonds with their families. They’re adaptable and do well in various living situations, whether it’s a small apartment or a large house. However, their short snouts can lead to breathing issues, particularly in hot or humid weather, so they need to be kept cool and given moderate exercise. Pugs are known for their loyalty and love to be close to their people, often following them from room to room and curling up on their laps for a nap.
